Son of Henry Bagg and Sarah Stedman (Hazen) Smith. He married 1. Mary Lucretia Dickinson 25 Aug. 1885 at South Amherst, MA. They had 3 children: Carlton Stedman (1887-1968), Helen Hazen (1895-1896) and Olive May (1895-1896)
He married 2. Locelia T Conley, 30 Mar. 1920.

obituary-In the sudden passing of Henry Martyn Smith, which occurred agter one week’s illness at his summer home on Cayuga Lake on July 22, 1936, the community is made poorer. His funeral was held from the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Belle W Conley, two miles north of Hayts Corners, Saturday afternoon, July 25 at two o’clock, conductded by Rev. George Jeffers, of Ovid Center, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery at McDuffletown.
Mr. Smith was one of ten children of Rev. and Mrs. Henry Baggs Smith and was born January 5th, 1863 at Abington, Conn. His young manhood was spent in that state, and for many years he was connected with The Newtown Bee, Newtown, Conn, as collector and agent. He retired from the newspaper business in 1913 on account of his health and removed to Walnnut Beach, Milford, Conn., where later he was in the grocery business.
On August 25, 1885, he was untided in marriage to Mary Lucretia Dickinson, of South Amherst, Mass., who passed away January 1, 1918. Mr. Smith came to Hayts Corners to live 16 years ago, having been united in marriage to Locelia T. Conley at St. Petersburg, Fla, March 30, 1920. He removed to Trumansburg two years ago.
He is survived by the widow; also by one son, Carlton Stedman Smith, of Brooklyn, N.Y., who wis his wife, was present at hte funeral; one granddaughter, Emmy Lou Smith, of Brooklyn; three brothers, Prof. Wm. Smith of Scottsville, Va.; Rev. Charles Smith, of Granby, Mass., and Arthur J. Smith of the Newtown Bee, Newtown, Conn.; by one sister, Mrs. Arthur Fairchild of the smame place; also severl nephews and nieces.
In his young manhood, he made profession of faith, uniting with the Congregational church, ever ringing true to his profession. Mr. Smith and his wife were regular attendants and supporters of the First Baptist Church in Trumansburg, and had but recently received their letter of dismission from the Presbyterian Church of zovid, to unite with that church.
Friends and relatives in attendance at the funeral wre from Brooklyn, Geneva, Trumansburg, Ovid and Romulus. Pall bearers were Arthur Munson, Seward Brooks, Clarence Swick, Harry Collins and William Lane.
