synopsis:
In his application of 1832, Oliver Bagg indicated 3 terms of Service: In April 1775 he traveled to Roxbury where he enlisted fro the term of 8 month under Capt. Enoch Chapin. He was discharged in Jan, 1776.
In the Fall of 1776 answering a call to arms, he re-entered service in place of his cousin, Joel Day Jr., who could not serve because of illness. He traveled to Stonesboro from where he was sent up lake to Ticonderoga and Mount Independence. He remained there a short time then returned over Lake George to Ft. Edward where they took boats to Albany and from there, down the North River towards NY. On July 4, 1777 he was at Morristown, NJ and 10 days later marched various places in that state: Newark, Elizabethtown, Westfield, Woodbridge and Rahway. He was discharged Jan. 15, 1778, arriving home Jan. 22.
In August or early September he again enlisted under John Morris. They traveled to the Northwood(?) where they were attached to the regiment of Col. Ruffles Woodbridge. For several days before the surrender of Burgoyne, they exchanged shots with his army. He was present at the surrender of Burgoyne after which he was ordered back to Albany and down the North River to within a few miles of New York. He was discharged on the last day of November.
